the most important component is the steel gear box. If you can turn the tracks forward and backwards without much effort then most likely you've got a steel gear box inside.
the joint pins do come off at times but only after running for many hours before it happened. In fact, the newer releases (ever since the KV1) improves quite a lot. A tiny drop of CA applied on one end fixes that.
